“The town of Scunthorpe lies upon the Lower Lias strata, which is rich in Iron ore.
The ore served as a catalyst for growth in the 1860’s and is why the town exists
today. Using original images alongside archive images the culture and history of
an industrial town are examined and the aspirational outlook of the past is
contrasted with a contemporary feeling of uncertainty and disquiet. The result
deals with both Scunthorpe directly and more broadly about a nostalgia
surrounding the decline of industrial towns across the U.K.”
